Full House for the Launch of ‘Curiad Gwag’: A special evening with authors Rebecca Roberts and Bethan Gwanas at Mold Library

“The title of Rebecca’s new novel may be Curiad Gwag (Empty Beat) but the room was full of buzz and laughter!”

On Thursday 23 June, Aura Libraries were delighted to host the launch of Rebecca Roberts’ new book in partnership with Gwasg Carreg Gwalch, Menter Iaith Fflint a Wrecsam and Siop y Siswrn. It was also wonderful to welcome Bethan Gwanas to the launch to introduce Rebecca and listen to the two much-loved authors discuss Rebecca’s new book, Curiad Gwag. The library was packed full of readers from North East Wales: many of whom were able to pick up a copy of Rebecca’s new book from Selwyn, who attended the evening on behalf of Siop y Siswrn, and have their copies signed by the author herself.

Commenting on behalf of the whole Aura team, Library Manager, Susannah Hill, said: “We had a fantastic evening listening to Rebecca Roberts in conversation with Bethan Gwanas as they discussed rebecca’s new book, Curiad Gwag: a novel set in Mold about Sophie Shaw, the recently appointed Tour Manager to Welsh heavy rock group Konquest. The novel struck a chord with many of us, especially those who spent much of their youth watching bands at The Tivoli in Buckley. I would like to thank Menter Iaith Fflint a Wrecsam, Siop y Siswrn and publishers Gwasg Carreg Gwalch for a fantastic evening of Cymraeg and Llyfrau. Caru darllen Cymraeg!

Maiwenn Berry, Development and Communication Officer for Menter Iaith Fflint a Wresam, shared her enthusiasm, saying: “Menter Iaith Fflint a Wrecsam were delighted to support the author Rebecca Roberts, one of our former Development Officers, at the launch of her new Welsh language novel in the company of Bethan Gwanas at Mold Library. It was great to be able to hold such an event in the flesh once again and to be working closely with Susannah Hill and Francesca Sciarrillo of Aura Libraries, and Nia Roberts of Gwasg Carreg Gwalch. The laughter in the room was contagious and we can’t wait to read Curiad Gwag! A big thankyou to Siop y Siswrn for coming along with a mountain of copies and also to Learn Welsh North East for being so willing to support, as always. The title of Rebecca’s new novel may be Curiad Gwag (Empty Beat) but the room was full of buzz and laughter.

Anne and Selwyn from Siop y Siswrn added: “We at Siop y Siswrn are always happy to work with local authors, and it was great to see many people at Mold Library enjoying an evening in the company of two fantastic authors: Rebecca Roberts and Bethan Gwanas.”

The whole Aura team would like to thank everyone who joined us for the launch of Curiad Gwag at Mold Library and we look forward to hosting more special library events again very soon!
