A fantastic year for Aura Sports Development’s 0-7 Multisport Programme
Throughout this year, Aura Sport Development’s 0-7 multisport programme has continued to develop and grow, providing a variety of activities for children in Flintshire.
Bethan Conway, School and Community Sport Coordinator, explained: “We have had a great year of sessions, and seen the programme grow significantly. In 2021 we saw 67 children attend 403 times across the programme; in comparison, 2022 has seen 172 children attend 1,368 times! This growth has come from expanding our programme so that we now have 7 weekly sessions in 5 different locations across the county.
Over the course of the year we have seen children learn how to walk, run, jump and develop their fine motor skills because of the varied and innovative activities in the sessions. We have also seen children progress from our 0-3 Parent and Toddler class to our 4-7 Multisport club.
Opportunities to work with different service areas and organisations have also been a highlight for the team who run the programme. Reflecting on this year as a whole, Bethan commented: “We were excited to work on the Fit, Fed and Read programme over the summer, which provided more opportunities for families to engage with the programme and allowed us to promote our sessions. As the year came to an end we had two visits from Mari from Cymraeg i Blant Sir y Fflint. She read and sang to the children in Welsh, and we will continue to encourage the parents we work with to attend her sessions at Aura libraries.
We love that our 0-3 Parent and Toddler sessions are linked with Aura libraries, and always enjoy story time at the end. Stories are a great way to encourage physical movement so this partnership is a great way for physical development, as well as parent and child bonding.”
Looking forward to what lies ahead, Bethan said: “We are excited to see the programme develop further in the New Year and plan to introduce a 0-3 Grandparent and Toddler Class in partnership with Aura’s 60+ programme. We are also planning to launch an additional 4-7 Multisport class in a new location.”
