Aura gym member Claire Strand “couldn’t be happier” with her personalised fitness plan that is “working wonders!”
We recently spoke to Claire Strand, a local resident of Flint and Aura gym member who very kindly shared her thoughts about joining the gym for the first time, and the importance of keeping your mind and body healthy
.

Like so many people, Claire explained that she felt unsure and uneasy at the prospect of joining the gym for the first time, describing how she had “always really wanted to join a gym but felt embarrassed and scared that people would look or laugh.

She explained: “I have two young babies and, as a result, I gained a lot of weight as so many women do. I went from a size 10 to a size 18 and lost a lot of confidence in myself. I suffer quite badly with anxiety so gaining weight definitely didn’t help. I stopped going out – especially alone – and just generally stopped all social interactions. I wasn’t in a good place and knew I had to do something about it, not just for my weight but for my mental health too.”

After taking the plunge and setting up an induction with Aura Instructor Matt, Claire was “surprised” to feel “very comfortable” and immediately determined to throw herself into a new challenge. She said: “It has been the best thing that I ever could have done. I still get anxious at times but Matt has been really encouraging and always happy to push me to my limits which is exactly what I need. I am seeing such positive improvements: I have lost nearly a stone and a half in weight after just six weeks, and I feel absolutely incredible! Matt created a personalised fitness plan for me and it is working wonders! I couldn’t be happier with how things have improved for me already. I have already noticed how much fitter I am and have much more energy.”

Highlighting the importance of self-care and positivity around people’s attitude to exercise, Claire said: “I love attending the gym as it gives me space to collect my thoughts and positively spend some time on me: we all need self-care! My goal is to get back down to the weight I was prior to having my babies and to become fitter and healthier in myself. I don’t need to try and fit in and do what the other people in the gym can do. The great thing about Aura’s fitness classes and gyms is that nobody makes you feel self-conscious because everyone is concentrating on their own fitness goals.”

Sharing her advice and hoping to inspire others, Claire said: “For anybody who is wanting to start attending the gym but may be feeling discouraged like I did at first, I say take that leap! You will not regret it: it will be one of the best things you can do for you!
