Steph Fearnley, one of our wonderful Aura Fitness Instructors, has very kindly shared some advice and useful information regarding her Tai Chi Movements for Wellbeing (TMW) classes.
She said: “Anyone who has attended the TMW classes with Aura will certainly have the skills to be called on at this time when we certainly need them! One of our most important TMW skills is to ground ourselves in the moment: to keep our mind in the same place as the body and focusing on the here and now. When we do this we relax and stay connected to ourselves and life all around us.
We refrain from being carried away by our thoughts, leading to feelings of stress in the body. We remember what is within our control and what is without, and we focus on what we can control. We can feel our feet on the ground, we can maintain our routines as much as possible, and we can stay connected to all of our friends, family and the outside world of nature all around us. These skills help us to feel so much better, so keeping up our practice is very important at this time.
Although moving together is powerful in many ways, at this time, practicing at home is the next best thing. It doesn’t matter if you can’t remember all of the moves, or the order! What matters is spending some time practicing every day to bring you the benefit of the movements and mindfulness which will spill over into a sense of wellbeing in your day to day life. Here are some tools to help you to continue to practice until we are able to move together again, which I hope will be very soon. Please take time practice, and to listen to the talks, it will help enormously.”
